Title attributed to the contract: T-MJB099-23 RACE STORM Single Joint Test Rig
Description:
Project Overview: UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), based at the Culham Science Centre in Oxfordshire, hereafter referred to as the Purchaser, carries out research into the use of controlled fusion for the generation of power. The Single Joint Test Rig or SOJ will be used to test systems with a vertical travel component. It should be noted that although it will be necessary to manufacture the components to the exacting standards required for the Purchaser’s site, they will not be operating in a radiation environment. The specification details the requirements for the procurement of the SOJ and forms part of the invitation to supply. Due to time pressures involved in the delivery of this project, the Purchaser will attach significant importance to submissions with shorter but realistic and justified, timelines. The Single Joint Test Rig (SOJ) has been designed using structural steel components, fabricated, and machined where appropriate, and assembled including commercial off the shelf equipment and fasteners. They are supported on existing UKAEA components, including the large angle blocks and bed plates as shown. Test operations will be run by SQEP operators, one operating the chain wheel and another operator outside the cell overseeing operations. The SOJ assembly is comprised of the following main components: Vertical Lifting Frame Transmission system The facility will be used as a research and development platform. It is based around a carriage supported on a back plate and linear slide rails, actuated by a lead screw driven by an operator through a transmission system. The facility is based in a work hall which is equipped with overhead cranes.
