II.1.4)
Short description
The purchased Laser System shall form part of the ‘LID-QMS’ capability. This capability shall deliver experiments measuring the fuel content of in-vessel tiles on JET. The technique employed desorbs fuel in the tile surface and co-deposited on the tile surface through localised heating. This laser induced desorption technique is paired with residual gas analysis techniques, specifically quadrupole mass spectrometry, to provide measurements of the quantity of fuel retained on tiles in the high deposition areas of the vessel diverter.
