Description of the procurement

UKAEA has commenced design of a spherical Deuterium Tritium (DT) fusion reactor called STEP. Tritium self-sufficiency is one of the key goals for the STEP reactor. The design of this tritium breeding experiment helps progress towards that goal. One aim of this project is to develop capabilities for integrated design. Achieving a sufficiently high tritium-breeding ratio for the STEP reactor will be challenging due to its spherical geometry. Therefore, it will be important to maximise the tritium production from the blanket and avoid losses of tritium.
Validation of software by comparison with experimental benchmarks is also critical to ensure the predictive capabilities of software.
This Prior Information Notice (PIN) is to alert the market that UKAEA intends to tender for the design and manufacture of a tritium producing blanket module experiment and invites expressions of interest and asks prospective tenderers to provide information on the feasibility and costs associated with the project.
For access to RFI materials please email: Robert.Boston@ukaea.uk, with “[TRITIUM BREEDER MODEL EXPERIMENT-RFI DOCUMENT REQUEST]” as email subject heading.
UKAEA will host a Webinar event which will include a Q&A session on Monday the 3rd of February at 13:00GMT . Access to the live webinar and subsequent recording will be provided by UKAEA via: https://ukaea.zoom.us/j/4746195549
Information obtained from contractor responses to RFI and the Webinar Q&A session will help UKAEA understand current market capabilities and shape the scope, direction and design of the future procurement.
Any supplier that does not respond to this PIN will in no way exclude themselves from any subsequent procurement for this workstream or the STEP programme.
