Design for Manufacture and Non-Destructive Testing Phase One • general manufacturing expertise and guidance for manufacture of nuclear components (as part of concept design sprints), • involvement in design sprints by providing manufacturing input as required to proposed high-level, immature and evolving design concepts (Phase One), • the development (in collaboration with UKAEA STEP Manufacturing team) of a quantitative manufacturability assessment tool for use during Phase One, • guidance and assessment, using the tool generated, on general manufacturability of high-level concepts during Phase One, • provide comment on risk levels and contribute to developing plan for de-risk activities including suggestions on changes to design to improve ease of manufacture. 5.4. Phase Two • input and involvement in focused Design for Manufacture assessments for more refined design concepts (not detailed design), • input and guidance in manufacturing process-related considerations to help refine concept designs, • offer guidance and expertise for improvements to design concepts based on manufacturing-related requirements, • toward the end of Phase Two, offer guidance and expertise related to NDT assessments.
