The Office of Environment and Infrastructure is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced consultants to conduct an options appraisal to either upgrade or replace the existing carcass incinerator on the Island of Guernsey. The incinerator has been operating since 1996 and is the subject of a waste management licence issued by the local Regulator. The plant is an Evans Universal (now Facultatieve Technologies) VP500 Cattle Cremator and it is a fixed hearth incinerator with a mechanical loading ram and manual de-ashing. It is rated at 330kg/hour and is normally operated for three 24-hour periods per week. The facility currently incinerates cull and casualty animal carcases (mostly cattle) and waste from the local slaughter house.
