Fusion is widely hoped to play a major role in energy supply in the future, and this provides both a major opportunity and a powerful motivation for the research and development community. Given the recent development in the field and the continuing technical challenges, UKAEA now wishes to understand more clearly how deployment might look and whether and how it might change with different fusion concepts and technologies. It is hoped that the project will increase the knowledge of fusion within the expert community and bring other benefits there.
