Setting Dyke Bank Works

[EndedMessage]

The re-profiling of the south bank of Setting Dyke at the western end of Cropton Playing Fields. The aim of this part of the works is to create a low-level platform just above mean water level, approximately 12 x 6m, to enhance the water edge biodiversity with a particular focus being to create Water Vole habitat. The shelf will need constructing using a long reach excavator. To utilise a number of dead trees in the woodland area on the north bank, to create a Log Jam. This works as a wildlife enhancement as well as slowing down water flows in times of high flood risk, helping to fully utilise the storage capacity of the dyke. The creation of a 600mm high, 45m long, soil bund along property boundaries on the north bank to protect the houses from being flooded during high water, overtopping conditions.
