PCC/PROC/0302 - THE COLLECTION & SECURE BOARDING OF BANNED BREEDS, DANGEROUS & SEIZED DOGS

7.2.1 Op Galileo is a Lincolnshire Police run operation to prevent and detect incidents of Hare coursing within Lincolnshire part of the enforcemnet strand of this operation requires the seizure of any dogs invovolved in offences linked to illegal poaching activity namely Hare coursing. Normally dogs involved in this type of crime are collectivly known as “SIGHT HOUNDS” and can vary in breeds however the main breeds will be Saluki, Greyhound , Lurcher and Whippets.

Lincolnshire police deal with Dangerous and banned breeds of dogs on a regular basis, they have a duty of care to protect the public from incidents involving Dangerous dogs and as such as part of the investigation police are required to seize any dogs which they believe present a danger to the public or are banned under the Dangerous dogs Act. Dog Legislation Officers (DLO) are trained in the investigation and handling of dangerous dogs.
